On September 30, 1998, codefendants Gregory Stroud, Carmecita Williams, Sean Stroud1, and Dwight Chandler2 were charged with violating the criminal drug conspiracy statute. 720 ILCS 570/405.1 (West 1998). In addition, Williams was also charged with official misconduct. 720 ILCS 5/33 — 3(b) (West 1998). At the conclusion of the State’s case, the trial court granted Williams’ motion for a directed verdict on the criminal drug conspiracy count. After a joint bench trial, the trial court found Williams guilty of official misconduct. The trial court sentenced Williams to 24 months’ probation and…
