The instant appeals present an issue which has been the subject of considerable debate, to wit, under what circumstances and to what extent will a nontitled spouse be entitled to share in the appreciation in value of separate property which appreciation occurred from the inception of the marriage to the date of the commencement of the divorce action (see, Domestic Relations Law § 236 [B] [1] [d] [3]).
