On the 25th of May, 1877, the State Auditor filed his petition in the circuit court of Cook county, against the Republic Life Insurance Company, under the provisions of the act in regard to the dissolution of insurance companies, approved ^February 17, 1874. The Auditor alleged in his petition that he had caused an examination to be made of the assets and liabilities of the company, and that, from such examination, he was of the opinion that the condition of the company was such as to render its further continuance in business hazardous to the insured therein.
