Introduction

Saundra Schaulis applied for a job as an Editor at CTB/McGraw-Hill, a test publishing company, on September 8, 1977, and began work as a temporary Assistant Editor I three days later. Ten months later she was promoted to Assistant Editor II, and received a salary increase, along with promotion to permanent status. However, believing that she had been subjected to unlawful discrimination on the basis of sex, plaintiff filed two charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”), and ultimately resigned from her job…
