Few eases come before our courts with more important and long-lasting repercussions than child custody eases involving allegations of physical violence by a parent. A court’s decision determining custody of the child has an incalculable effect on the future life of the family. The fact that the children in a custody ease do not have standing to be parties to the litigation increases the importance of the role of the family court in such eases.
