Stringfield, who held positions at Tennessee State University (“TSU”) as a tenured faculty professor and director of the baccalaureate program in nursing, sued TSU, the Tennessee Board of Regents (“TBR”), and Mary Ella Graham, individually and in Graham’s official capacity as dean of the School of Nursing, under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, claiming that her property and liberty rights had been deprived without due process when she was removed without notice or hearing from her administrative position (but retained as a tenured professor).
