HAYS, Chief Justice.
The defendant, Corey Karstetter, appeals from a guilty verdict and a life sentence, for the crime of first degree murder.
Defendant, at the time of his extremely brutal crime, was 27 years old and had an I.Q. of 130. In the evening of October 15, 1972, while employed as a security guard at Mesa Community College, he entered the pantry where a fifty-year-old woman was working. He helped her lift a heavy tray from the freezer and carry it to a table. He then, without warning, struck her with his fist so hard that he knocked some of her teeth out and broke one of his fingers.…
