Representative plaintiffs brought this civil action as a class action *546seeking severance pay benefits on behalf of themselves and similarly situated employees.

On October 30, 1985, this court, after hearing, certified this action as a class action. The class was certified as “. . . all the salaried nonunion employees of Hussey Metals Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Louisiana Land and Exploration Company, who upon the sale of certain assets of Hussey Metals Inc. to Hussey Copper Ltd., were not paid severance pay by either Louisiana Land & Exploration Company or Hussey Metals…
