OPINION

WEISBERGER, Chief Justice.

This case came before us on the appeal of the defendant, Ernest Gomes (Gomes or defendant), from a judgment of conviction entered in the Superior Court for the County of Providence upon a jury verdict finding him guilty of two counts of first-degree child-molestation sexual assault in violation of G.L. 1956 § 11-87-8.1 and one count of second-degree child-molestation sexual assault in violation of G.L. 1956 § 11-37-8.3.
