FLAUM, Circuit Judge.

A jury convicted Ricky Jester of violating 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), which prohibits a convicted felon from possessing a firearm. Jester makes two constitutional arguments in an attempt to invalidate this conviction. First, he argues that § 922(g)(1) authorizes a cruel and unusual punishment in violation of the Eighth Amendment by imposing a criminal sanction based on his status as a convicted felon.
