This case presents a question of apparent first impression— whether it is legally possible to commit the crime of attempted endangering the welfare of a child. Defendant was charged in *74an information with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (Penal Law § 260.10 [1]) and two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree (Penal Law § 130.60 [2]).
