The plaintiffs, Barbara B. Sack, a resident of Massachusetts, and three other residents of that state, acting as trustees of a Massachusetts profit sharing trust, brought this action in the District Court for the Southern District of New York in March 1972 against the partners of Bear, Stearns & Co., a brokerage firm which has its principal place of business in New York City, and Richard W.
