Jacob Weinberger and John Julia, commercial partners, engaged in the fruit trade in the city of Galveston, bought the steamer James H. Geary, of Woodward & Wight, of the city of New Orleans, and had lief repaired in said city, and insured in the Merchants’ Mutual Insurance Company. The repairs were made under the supervision of W. M. Baker, marine inspector for the company.
In November,. 1882, on a voyage from Galveston to Vera Cruz, the Geary encountered severe-gales and was so damaged that she was condemned and sold,
