In 1856 W. T. Barnard, then a widower and a large landowner in Issaquena county, married Mrs. Eudora Likens, a widow without children. No children were born to them. Mrs. Likens brought to her husband about $23,000 in money and property. The war having ruined his fortune, and suits being threatened, W. T. Barnard executed to R. S. Buck, as trustee, a deed in trust, conveying lands therein described, to secure the repayment of his indebtedness to his wife: This was done September 29, 1866.
