KANNE, Circuit Judge.

Plaintiff-appellant Kenneth Merritt, an inmate at Westville Correctional Center (WCC), brought suit in the district court under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, claiming that de fendant superintendent’s denial of Merritt’s request for leave to attend his step-father’s funeral violated his substantive and procedural due process rights. The district court granted summary judgment for defendant, and Merritt appeals.
