Supreme Court of Iowa

Decided October 13, 1999No. 97-1769PublishedCited by 62 opinions

1Opinion of the Court

TERNUS, Justice.

The plaintiff, Patrick Sanford, was formerly an inmate of a minimum security facility in Iowa. He sued the State and prison officials, claiming damages from the imposition of excessive discipline for his violation of prison rules. The district court granted the State’s motion to dismiss and entered summary judgment for the individual defendants. Upon Sanford’s appeal, we affirm the dismissal of his claim against the State, but reverse the adverse summary judgment ruling and remand for further proceedings.
