Associated Grocers of New England, Inc., (the “employer”) is a cooperative food wholesaler owned by several hundred independent grocers. When in August 1974, the employer’s negotiations for a new contract with the union representing its warehouse-men and truck drivers broke down, 189 of its employees went on strike. The strike, lasting for nearly three months, was marked by sporadic violence.
