I {.The defendant, Jovan Murphy, was charged by bill of information with simple burglary, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:62. The defendant pled not guilty and, following a jury trial, was found guilty as charged. The State filed a habitual offender bill of information and, following a hearing on the matter, the defendant was adjudicated a third-felony habitual offender. Because the defendant’s prior convictions were also for simple burglary, the defendant faced mandatory life imprisonment, pursuant to LSA-R.S. 15:529.1(A)(3)(b).
