FAY, Circuit Judge:

Not unlike the dangers encountered by early settlers, today’s pioneers in oil exploration must face daily the perils of the sea and the occupational hazards of work on offshore oil platforms. This appeal is a result of a tragic encounter with such an occupational hazard. Grady Lee Copeland and his wife, Deborah Copeland, brought this action against Gulf Oil Corporation for serious injuries sustained by Grady Copeland while working on an offshore platform.
