VAUGHN, Judge.

The sole issue for trial was whether respondent had abandoned the child for six months immediately preceding the date the petition was filed, 20 June 1977. See G.S. 48-2(3a).

The respondent first contends that the trial court erred in allowing Jamie’s mother to testify about his health. He argues that this testimony was irrelevant to the issue of whether Jamie had been abandoned and was prejudicial.
