1Opinion of the Court

On March 30, 1831, the government granted to Richard Andrews one-fourth of a league of land, as a single man; and on November 23, 1832, it granted to him an augmentation of three-fourths of a league as a married man. Richard Andrews was killed at the battle of Concepcion, on October 28, 1835, and left surviving him two brothers, a sister, and two women, each claiming to have been his wife, and an infant child, born to him by one of the alleged wives, which child died in January, 1836. One of the alleged wives was known as Parthena Andrews, and the other, who was the mother of the child…
