The defendant, Donald Cole, appeals from the judgment of conviction, following a juiy trial, of one count of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a).1 Following his conviction, the trial court *314sentenced the defendant to a total effective term of sixty years imprisonment. On appeal, the defendant claims that the trial court violated his due process rights by failing to require the state to disprove his insanity defense beyond a reasonable doubt.
