Defendant Raymond Anthony Lozano appeals from judgment of conviction entered after a jury found him guilty of escape (Pen. *621Code, § 4532, subd. (a) (section 4532(a)).1 The jury also found true an allegation that the escape was by force and violence. In this appeal, defendant claims that (1) he was deprived of his right to a jury trial on the issue of whether the escape was by force and violence; (2) he was deprived of his right to counsel at a critical stage of the proceeding; (3) the instructions concerning escape misled the jury on the issue of intent; and (4) the court…
