Defendant was arrested on September 4, 1986 and charged in an information with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. (Vehicle and Traffic Law §§ 1190, 1192 [3].) It is *116alleged that the arresting officer observed defendant, operating a motor vehicle, drive through a red light. Upon inspection, the officer noticed the defendant had watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his breath and that he was unsteady on his feet.
