Defendant, Nathaniel A. Cannon, charged with second degree murder, was convicted by a jury in the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis of voluntary manslaughter, § 565.023.1(1), RSMo (1986) (all further references shall be to RSMo (1986) unless otherwise noted), and armed crimi*822nal action, § 571.015.1. Defendant was sentenced to five years for voluntary manslaughter and to four years for armed criminal action, said sentences to run consecutively for a total term of nine years.
