OPINION

ZAPPALA, Justice.

We are called upon to review convictions of first degree murder, for which the Appellants were sentenced to death. *481Pursuant to 42 Pa.C.S. § 9711(h), we examine the record for errors at trial, and to determine whether the sentence of death should be affirmed or vacated.

I. BACKGROUND
