COMBS, Justice.
David Louis Sommers was convicted in McCracken Circuit Court of two counts of murder, and sentenced to two consecutive 500-year terms of imprisonment. He appeals as a matter of right.
The victims were sisters, 13-year-old Carrie and 12-year-old Stephanie VanMe-ter. In the summer of 1988, the girls’ parents apparently abandoned them in the care of their neighbors, David and Elizabeth (Sherry) Sommers.
