This case arises out of a 1987 helicopter crash in which all three passengers were killed and the pilot, Jack Turley, was seriously injured. After the crash, the passengers’ survivors and Mr. Turley brought suit in district court against Allison Gas Turbine *4Division of General Motors Corporation (“Allison”), the manufacturer of the helicopter’s engine.
