The issue to be resolved in this case is whether the Michigan Department of Social Services (DSS) may mandate reimbursement for general assistance advanced during the pendency of a supplemental security income (SSI) applica tion and approved, where the first SSI check, including retroactive benefits, is inadvertently sent to the recipient rather than the Department of Social Services. We hold that it may so mandate reimbursement and, therefore, affirm but modify the judgment of the trial court.
