OLIVER, Judge:

On 9 December 1993 a military judge found the appellant guilty, pursuant to his pleas, of a 5-1/2-year period of unauthorized absence, escape from confinement, forgery, making and uttering checks with insufficient funds, and possessing and altering military identification cards, in violation of Articles 86, 95, 123, 123a, and 134, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 886, 895, 923, 923a, and 934 (1994)[hereinafter UCMJ], respectively.
