DIANA GRIBBON MOTZ, Circuit Judge:

A South Carolina jury convicted William Henry Bell of the armed robbery and murder of Dennis Hepler. On the jury’s recommendation, the state trial court sentenced Bell to death. After exhausting his state remedies, Bell filed a petition for federal habeas relief, challenging his convictions and death sentence on numerous grounds.
