RIPPLE, Circuit Judge.

This is an appeal by the defendants from the district court’s denial of their motion for summary judgment. The plaintiffs, Frank and Janice Pasquino, brought a § 1983 action against the defendants, who are police officers, for damages arising from an alleged violation of their Fourth Amendment rights. Because the defendants maintained that the legal principles underlying the alleged violation were not clearly established when they acted, they claimed qualified immunity and therefore moved for summary judgment.
