Darden, Judge:
Consistent with his plea of guilty, the appellant was convicted by a general court-martial of absence without leave and desertion during different periods in the years 1968 and 1969. After findings, counsel for Williams, properly qualified within the terms of Article 27(b), Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC § 827, presented *48an oral stipulation that detailed the appellant’s service in Vietnam. In addition, he gave an unsworn statement in the appellant’s behalf, explaining the circumstances attending the offenses here charged. Williams did not testify.…
