The defendant, Denton A. Ashman, was convicted of murder in the first degree, based on both deliberate pre*737meditation and extreme atrocity or cruelty. We affirm the conviction and decline to exercise our power under G. L. c. 278, § 33E, to reduce the murder verdict to second degree or to order a new trial.
