Helena Ballman made claim before the department of labor and industry for an award of compensation based on the death of her husband, *584Peter Ballman, alleged to have arisen out of and in the course of his employment with the D’Arcy Spring Company which is engaged in the manufacture of cushion springs in the city of Kalamazoo. On October 5, 1921, Ballman was in the company’s employ as a machine operator in its coiling room, department No. 2, where from 10 to 15 men were working under a foreman named Stevens.
