Appellant, Cheri L. Stott, was convicted in the county court for Lancaster County, Nebraska, without counsel, of disturbing the peace. Stott’s sentence included 24 hours in jail, 1 year’s probation, and a 14-day suspended jail sentence waivable upon successful completion of probation. Stott appealed to the district court, arguing that her conviction had been obtained in violation of her right to counsel. The district court remanded the case for vacation of the portion of the sentence imposing incarceration, and the Nebraska Court of Appeals affirmed the decision of the district court. See…
