The plaintiff was incorporated about January 29th, 1883, under the “ Telegraph Act,” chapter 265 of the Laws of 1848 and the various acts amendatory thereof. Immediately upon its incorporation it purchased the existing systems of overhead wires operated by the Holmes Burglar Alarm Telegraph Company and the American District Telegraph Company, which companies had theretofore conducted telegraph systems for the detection of burglary in the city of New York.
