Andrew Scott Baldwin filed the instant action against the City of Omaha (City) under the Political Subdivisions Tort Claims Act, Neb. Rev. Stat. § 13-901 et seq. (Reissue 1991 & Cum. Supp. 1992), in which he seeks recovery for injuries sustained *3from a confrontation with the Omaha police on September 5, 1992. Following a bench trial, the district court found that there were two causes of the injuries suffered by Baldwin on September 5: the negligence of the City and the contributory negligence of Baldwin for discontinuing his prescribed medication while aware of the risks of doing so.
