OPINION OF THE COURT

COPERTINO, J.

We affirm the Family Court’s order granting custody to the father. It is well settled that the preeminent concern in child custody matters is the best interests of the child (see, Eschbach v Eschbach, 56 NY2d 167; Friederwitzer v Friederwitzer, 55 NY2d 89). Inasmuch as no prima facie right to custody exists in favor of either parent (see, Domestic Relations Law §§ 70, 240), the court is obliged to conduct a comprehensive hearing and to carefully consider all relevant factors in rendering its decision; the court’s determination, made after such a hearing, is…
