Reynolds Metals Company appeals from a class-certification order obtained by the plaintiffs in this case, who are former salaried employees of Reynolds ("the plaintiff employees"). We vacate the class-certification order and remand.

I. Facts and Procedural History

Jim W. Hill and Charles D. Harvey filed a class action on behalf of 279 former salaried employees of Reynolds who sought severance benefits when Reynolds sold the Reynolds Alloys Complex in Listerhill ("the Alloys facility") to Wise Alloys, L.L.C.
