Petitioner, a member of the New York City Fire Department since March 6,1970, sustained an injury to his left knee on September 7, 1977, while in the course of this employment. The injury, a broken fibula bone and tom medial meniscus, resulted in petitioner’s being placed on medical leave and being found unfit for fire duty on October 28, 1977.
