The defendant, Kevin Epps, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-59 (a) (2), and kidnapping in the first degree with the intent to inflict physical injury and with the intent to terrorize in violation of General Statutes § 53a-92 (a) (2) (A) and (C).1 The jury found the defendant not guilty of attempt to commit murder in violation *86of General Statutes §§ 53a-54a (a) and 53a-49.
