NORCOTT, J.

The defendant, Joe Burgos Vega, appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of two counts of assault in the first degree *377in violation of General Statutes § Boa-591 and one count of kidnapping in the second degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-94.2 He was sentenced to a total effective term of sixty years and appealed his conviction to the Appellate Court. We transferred the appeal to this court pursuant to Practice Book § 65-1 and General Statutes § 51-199 (c). We affirm the judgment of the trial court.
