This case is about the validity of the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act (“MIFPA”), a law enacted by the Minnesota State Legislature for the purpose of addressing historic wrongs to American Indian (“Indian”) tribes and families. Plaintiffs Jane and John Doe are themselves Indian, but they view the statute as an infringement on their rights to equal protection and due process.
