Although this appeal was originally assigned to our accelerated calendar, we have elected to issue a full written opinion in accordance with Loc.R. 12(5).

The record demonstrates that the Union County Grand Jury issued an indictment against appellant, Kevin 0. McConnell, on April 18, 1997, on four separate counts: felony DUI; assault on a peace officer; intimidation; and retaliation. Appellant initially entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
