From the evidence offered by the plaintiff the jury could reasonably have found that in proceeding to his home about half-past eight on the evening of January 19th, 1928, while walking on a public sidewalk near the comer of South Colony and Cooper Streets, Meriden, the plaintiff tripped on a stone which was used by the city as a cover for a sewer catch-basin, causing him to lose his balance and fall, resulting in a compound fracture of the left leg near the ankle; that the stone was large and uneven and irregular in shape, four feet in length, twenty inches in width and five to seven inches…
