On March 20, 1981, the defendant, Jackson, was convicted in the circuit court of Du Page County of the rape (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 11—1), deviate sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 11—3), and robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 18—1) of Mary W. In July 1988, Jackson filed a petition for post-conviction relief challenging several aspects of his sentencing. The trial judge denied relief, and the appellate court affirmed (200 Ill. App. 3d 92).
