You have requested my opinion concerning chemical treatment of aquatic nuisances under permits issued by the Department of Natural Resources in light of opposition from the City of Madison to chemical treatment. Your letter states that riparians along Lake Mendota have applied, under sec. 144.025 (2) (i), Stats., for permits to chemically treat the weed growth along their shorelines.
