Initially, defendant contends that he was deprived of the effective assistance of counsel when the trial court denied his motion for a continuance, resulting in the trial commencing the same day that his omnibus motion was denied. Defendant theorizes that his attorney was compelled to proceed to trial without an opportunity to assess the impact of the court’s ruling.
