MEMORANDUM OF DECISION
KRAVITZ, District Judge.
Defendant Neville Thomas is charged in a one-count indictment [doc. # 1] with being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). Mr. Thomas now moves to suppress the .380 caliber, semi-automatic pistol that Hartford police found in his waistband on June 13, 2004, when Mr. Thomas was patted down immediately upon exiting the passenger side of a reptal van parked in a high-crime area of Hartford at 2:45 a.m. The question presented by the motion to suppress is narrow.
